Revamp Your Bedroom On A Budget

A person's bedroom is their sanctuary; a place to come home to after a long day’s work and leave all the stress behind. However, when there are bills to pay and food to put on the table, it can be hard to justify spending money on your bedroom decor, especially since guests rarely see this room.

Fear not! We’ve come up with 10 budget friendly tips to revamp your bedroom in a single weekend. Ready?

1. DECLUTTER

Clear up some space by looking at everything with a fresh approach. Ask yourself whether you really need or use all the bits and bobs lying around. When it comes to your wardrobe especially, a good rule to live by is ‘If you haven’t worn it in 6 months, get rid’. Slide storage boxes under your bed to hide away seasonal clothes like winter coats.

2. FENG SHUI

The simplest way to give your bedroom a makeover is to have a reshuffle. If possible, try moving your bed around to create more floor space. Or ask yourself, do I really need everything in here? Could something be better suited in a different room? Shift your laundry basket to the bathroom, or your shoe rack to the hallway. Excess furniture could even be sold online to create more floor space.

3. HIT THE CHARITY SHOPS

Charity shops aren’t just the perfect place to drop off your unwanted clothes; they’re full of bargain home decor pieces that just need a little TLC. Revamp dated furniture and turn it into modern, shabby chic decor using the thousands of tutorials online. Master the distressed boho look simply by painting or staining wooden furniture.

4. LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE

For a more cosy and romantic ambience, switch off the overhead light and invest in lamps. A couple of bedside lights, with low-watt bulbs, will change that harsh, bright lighting to a soft and flattering glow.

5. SEASONAL BEDDING

Keep your bedroom fresh throughout the year by having different bedding for each season. How about a botanical spread, with bright colours and palm tree leaves galore, for summer, and festive themed bedding for winter? A string of white lights draped along a bed frame, or hung on the wall above, will give your bed a more cosy and glamorous feel all year round.

6. EMBRACE THE GREENERY

Infuse some life into your bedroom by adding greenery. The windowsill, dressing table or bedside table are all good spots for plants, but we love adding a large, leafy plant as the stand out piece in the corner. Plants will purify the air and help make sure you get a good night's sleep. But don’t worry, if you struggle to keep plants alive, no one will ever know if you opt for artificial instead!

7. PRINT YOUR PHOTOS

With our phones being the master photo album for most of us, we rarely get around to printing off those weekend snaps. Dotting photo frames around your room will add a personal touch to the space. Buy cheap, plain frames and spray paint them with colours of your choice – metallic spray looks glamorous and copper is bang on trend.

9. ONE CHANGE CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE

Painting one feature wall is a time (and cost!) effective way to change up the entire feel of your bedroom. Spice up a neutral palette by picking one wall to be a bold colour – just make sure it’s one that complements your furniture and accessories. Alternatively, choose an eye catching wallpaper that is within your budget.

8. DIY SHELVING

Add some flare to your bedroom by using wooden crates as a box shelf, or a freestanding ladder as a quirky shelving unit. Wooden crates don’t have to look cheap, just give them a clean and a lick of paint and hey presto, a new stand to pop your trinkets on. A ladder is much more affordable than a new unit, and fairy lights wrapped around the legs will complete the look.

10. GET THRIFTY

Tapestries not only make a bold statement, they are also much cheaper than a piece of art and won’t damage the wall (ideal if you’re renting!) Personalisation is all the rage: grab yourself a few cardboard letters, a bottle of matte paint and spell out any word you fancy for an easy, DIY decoration.
